and Skylarks on Cumbraeā author, Maura McRobbie will read excerpts from
her book telling how the Vikings lived in peace with the Scots on the west of
Scotland long before the Battle of Largs in 1263.
Based on real life events Maura will introduce the main characters: Moranna, a young Scots girl and Sten, a Viking boy living on the island of Cumbrae.
Activities will include:
⢠Identifying the Ayrshire coast and the islands of Arran, Bute and Cumbrae
⢠Developing dialogue and scripts between a Scots girl and a Viking boy;
⢠Investigating the run up to the Battle of Largs and the Viking legacy;
⢠Designing a Norse/Scots book illustration.
6-12 years (smaller siblings welcome to attend)
Free Pre booked tickets - all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Morning session - 10:30am - 12:00
Afternoon session - 14:00 - 15:30
Copies of Mauraās books will be available in the gift shop for her to sign and she will also bring along Teacherās notes.
