Award winning tapestry
weaving artist Katie Russell joins us at the Scottish Maritime Museum, Irvine
to discuss her latest solo exhibition Woven
Waves: The Jutland Tapestries.
Her series of weavings encompass different elements of the Battle of Jutland, drawing on the experience of the British and German sailors involved, the historical and social impact of the World War One battle and the scientific research conducted on the shipwrecks. In January 2019, Russell travelled to Germany and Norway on a Creative Funded research visit to explore what is considered to be the biggest naval battle of all time. She will discuss her time at the Sea War Museum Jutland and her experience with the local tapestry weavers.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A session lead by Exhibition and Events Officer, Nicola Scott.
